Drama Day

Our work in the school system and in our own drama camps tells us that our young people are still experiencing mental health and physical deficits because of the global health emergency of COVID-19. We have noticed in our practice, and teachers have noticed as well, an increase in student anxiety, decreased relationship-building skills, and a lack of physical confidence and awareness in their bodies in relation to others.

In collaboration with the Perlin Foundation for Wellbeing, Quest Theatre will be piloting a new program called Drama Day (working title). This day program will contain developmental drama activities for kindergarten to grade 6 that explicitly address mental health, anxiety, relationship building, improving physical literacy, and creating classroom wellbeing.

We are looking to test the program in 5 schools (up to 20 if funding is secured) in Calgary and area from February to June 2024. Each booking will serve up to 4 classes in a school with a 45-minute set of drama activities that support wellness. Due to our need to test our program on all grade levels, schools may or may not be able to choose which grade levels are served. Value of $400.

Required

  • Permission to take photos or video of at least one class. (permissions need to be obtained by the school)

  • A feedback form (8 minutes) completed after the activity by each of the teachers whose classes we worked with.

  • Book a Drama Day Pilot for $250/day to happen before June 28, 2024.

  • Book for next school year at the early bird price of $300/day ($350/day full price).

  • School must be in Calgary (and area) and accessible by public transit to participate.
